Republicans and Bladerunner

For the fiction writer who suffers from periodic urges to deliver political sermons, the dystopian novel offers the possibility of combining your creative and your evangelical natures.   George Orwell did it, illuminating the essence of Stalinism in 1984. Ridley Scott did it in a movie, Bladerunner.  Reading Harold Meyerson today on the new House Republican budget, I felt as if I had glimpsed an alternative future for this country that is a like lot Scott’s movie.  I would like to write my own dystopia, but I don’t write that fast, and I think maybe the reality might be here sooner than my book.
